The central figure of this mural is a letter writer, a vital personality of Singapore’s history. Letter writers were commonly found in Chinatown and they provided the service of helping our migrant forefathers write letters to their loved ones. They also worked as calligraphers for Chinese New Year couplets and ancestral altars. This mural exudes a very local and nostalgic flavour that is

Yip Yew Chong
Yip Yew Chong is a Singaporean mural artist who not only has a keen interest in art but also travel, nature, videography and photography. He is well known for the heritage murals that he has painted in many districts all around Singapore. Another fun fact about Yip is that he was initially an accountant by day and only a part-time artist!
